Police arrested 25 motorists for alleged drunken driving July 29 through Saturday. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were younger than 21. So far this year, there have been 730 DUI arrests compared with 813 during the same period last year, a 10.2 percent decrease.

Police arrested 25 motorists for alleged drunken driving July 29 through Saturday. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were younger than 21. So far this year, there have been 730 DUI arrests compared with 813 during the same period last year, a 10.2 percent decrease.

There have been 804 major accidents so far this year compared with 872 during the same period last year, a 7.8 percent decrease. So far this year, there were 19 traffic fatalities on Hawaii Island compared with 23 during the same period last year, a 17.4 percent decrease. To date, three fatalities were related to drugs only, one was related to alcohol only and four were related to a combination of both. DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
